2020/09/29 Washington D.C., 29 de septiembre de 2020.-  Alejandro de León, Daniel Justavino y Norberto Cáceres, Estudiantes de la Universidad Tecnológica de Panama en colaboración técnica The Trust for the Americas y la ANTAI presentan una aplicación abierta donde se pueden consultar los presupuestos, gastos, ingresos y entidades del Gobierno Panameño. En el marco del programa “Innovación a través de Datos Abiertos en Panamá”,  esta iniciativa forma parte de los tres proyectos innovadores de datos abiertos recibieron financiación inicial y están siendo implementados por emprendedores sociales en Panamá: Elsa Fernández, Directora de la ANTAI, comenta sobre la alianza estratégica con The Trust For The Americas en pro de un gobierno abierto: “ El más reciente proyecto compartido ha sido el APP de Transparencia Presupuestaria, realizado por estudiantes de la UTP y entregado a la ANTAI como una herramienta que busca visibilizar los datos abiertos en manos de las instituciones, automatizando así los procesos con miras a mejorar la calidad de vida de la población”. El desarrollo de esta aplicación que modela el árbol jerárquico institucional del país, registra a nivel discreto los siguientes objetos: presupuestos, gastos, ingresos y entidades.  Rodrigo Iriani, Gerente Senior de Programa del Trust for the Americas, comentó detalles de la utilidad de la plataforma: “La idea es que las entidades independientes, como los particulares, las empresas y las organizaciones no gubernamentales, puedan consultar los datos administrados por el sistema y usarlos, para cualquier tipo de escrutinio o análisis. 2020/09/21 Agua Prieta, Sonora, 21 de septiembre de 2020 – El H. Ayuntamiento de Agua Prieta, a través del Instituto de las Mujeres, se suma a The Trust for the Americas para capacitar a más de 50 mujeres sonorenses en el  Proyecto VIVE (ven, inspírate y vende) para fortalecer sus oportunidades económicas ante la pandemia por COVID-19. La firma de la colaboración se dio por parte del Presidente Municipal de Agua Prieta quien dijo que “el desarrollo de las mujeres es clave para el crecimiento de la sociedad, en todos sentidos; es muy importante apoyar a nuestras mujeres para fortalecer la economía y contribuir a la disminución de la violencia de hacia las mujeres”  Al respecto, María Fernanda Sierra Perea, Gerente Senior de Programas – POETA, expresó que “en The Trust for the Americas estamos firmemente convencidas de que promoviendo oportunidades para que las mujeres sean independientes, emocional y económicamente, construimos paz. Hoy estamos felices de sumar con el gobierno municipal de Agua Prieta para capacitar a mujeres sonorenses. Esta alianza les brindará herramientas para que impulsen su desarrollo personal y laboral, de esta forma beneficiamos a las mujeres, a sus familias y comunidades”. Esta capacitación se realizará de forma virtual acatando las medidas de distanciamiento social recomendadas por la Organización Mundial de la Salud. El Proyecto VIVE es implementado en México por The Trust for the Americas desde el 2016 gracias al apoyo  de Walmart Foundation. Entre 2016 y 2019 capacitó a más de 53 mil personas a nivel nacional. Del total de personas capacitadas, más de 43  mil son mujeres (40% de las cuales son jefas de familia). 2020/08/14 Estado de México, 13 de agosto de 2020.- El presidente municipal de Toluca, Juan Rodolfo Sánchez Gómez, firmó una carta de colaboración con la gerente del Proyecto VIVE (Ven, Inspírate y Vende) de The Trust for the Americas, María Fernanda Sierra Perea, para capacitar durante la pandemia por COVID-19 a decenas de toluqueñas, de forma virtual y gratuita. El alcalde refrendó su compromiso de impulsar la economía familiar, al generar oportunidades para que las mujeres se desarrollen y emprendan con proyectos productivos firmes, al tiempo que se propicia una sociedad más inclusiva y equitativa, pues la alianza con The Trust for the Americas, entidad sin fines de lucro afiliada a la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), busca disminuir la brecha laboral entre géneros y reducir la violencia hacia las mujeres. Al respecto,  la gerente del Proyecto VIVE, María Fernanda Sierra Perea, expresó que “en The Trust for the Americas estamos firmemente convencidas de que promoviendo oportunidades para que las mujeres sean independientes, emocional y económicamente, construimos paz. Hoy estamos felices de sumar con el gobierno municipal, a través de Ambientes de Paz, para capacitar a mujeres toluqueñas. 2020/08/14 Washington, D.C. August 14, 2020.- The Trust for the Americas, with support of The Mico University College and the N.C.B. Foundation, hosted the first-ever hybrid ideathon at the NCB ICON Lab in Jamaica. NCB ICON Lab promotes an entrepreneurial and learning mindset for Jamaican youth to become referents and change agents in their communities. ICON is an acronym for Innovative, Creative, Outstanding, and Nationalistic. Twenty young students between the ages of 16 and 35 participated in this idea acceleration event. These students sparked their innovation and entrepreneurship skills using the Trust´s flagship Ideathon Methodology: ICI (Innovation, Creativity, and Inspiration). Their ideas will support the local economy in a socially distant environment and promote the use of waste materials productively to take care of the most vulnerable communities within Jamaica. Students present at the NCB ICON Lab worked with those remotely through online breakout sessions. As a first step, each group formulated as many ideas as possible. Then, participants had to think of what situation they are most fed up with, in their day-to-day as a means to understand the most pressing issues Jamaican society face during the pandemic. Furthermore, each group had to filtrate their ideas according to its feasibility, impact, relevance, and differentiation. Finally, the idea that successfully meets these four elements is the one to be developed into a service or a product by using the Canvas Model.  Thalia Lyn, Chairman of the N.C.B. Foundation, highlighted the importance of these initiatives of the NCB Icon Lab to avoid considering the lockdown as a lockout for the people. She finalized her intervention, inspiring the enthusiastic students by calling them to: “Be disrupters, always be agile and keep stretching your minds. You are the innovators for the Jamaican 2030 project.”   Linda Eddleman, CEO of the Trust for the Americas, attended the introductory session to support the participants “After weeks of taking your online classes, you are beginning to identify different possibilities of ways to improve businesses, processes, and solutions to every-day challenges. Today, you can materialize these ideas and turn them into viable actions and solutions, let your imagination flow. Because of the passion and results-driven mindset that I have witnessed in Jamaican youth, I am certain we will see remarkable projects and ideas come up from this Ideathon.” At the end of the second day, participants presented and defended their ideas before a jury. 2020/07/29 Washington D.C., 29 de Julio 2020. – The Trust for the Americas en colaboración con el departamento para la Gestión Pública Efectiva de la Organización de Estados Americanos y la empresa Inteligencia Comercial Grupo Inco Corp, crean plataforma de datos abiertos de la Caja de Seguro Social (CSS). El portal de datos abiertos es un espacio creado en el Portal Web de Transparencia de la CSS con herramientas modernas tecnológicas a disposición y dominio público. En el portal se encuentra información relevante al COVID-19, prestaciones económicas, salud, medicamentos y del centro de contactos de CSS relacionadas al número de llamadas y acceso a la información. Kathia Quiel Carreira, directora de la Secretaria Técnica de Responsabilidad y Soporte Institucional de la CSS informó que la página web de la institución cuenta con espacios del nodo de transparencia requeridos por la ANTAI, enlaces del portal de Panamá Compras, enlaces de datos abiertos de la plataforma Interestatal de la Autoridad de Innovación Gubernamental (AIG) y de la Contraloría General de la República.  Como esfuerzos de transparencia en toda la gestión pública, se creó un espacio de “Rendición de Cuentas” donde muestra todas las compras hechas por la entidad. Asimismo, se agregan estados financieros desde el año 2005 hasta el año 2019 en formatos accesibles a la ciudadanía para descarga en PDF, EXCEL, CSV, XML, JSON y API. Los distintos formatos de descarga están adaptados para incluir a personas con algún grado de discapacidad de forma visual o auditiva. El portal de datos abiertos forma parte del proyecto Innovación Pública a través de los Datos Abiertos en Panamá de The Trust for the Americas que tiene como objetivo incentivar a los gobiernos locales y a la sociedad civil de Panamá a crear espacios de discusión, colaboración y deliberación de políticas públicas de datos abiertos. Por medio de alianzas y pequeños donativos para innovaciones sociales, se busca el fortalecimiento de la polítical nacional sobre transparencia y acceso a la información. 2020/07/07 Microsoft launched an initiative Monday to teach digital skills to 25 million people who lost their jobs due to Covid-19 by the end of 2020. The company will combine resources from itself and its subsidiaries LinkedIn and GitHub to identify in-demand jobs and skills, provide free skills and job-seeking tools and low-cost certifications. Through Linkedin, Microsoft is making some of its labor market insights available to policymakers and the public to identify global and regional demand for skills, emerging jobs and what companies are hiring. The company will provide $20 million in grants to nonprofits for those who are most under-resourced. Of that, $5 million will go to community-based nonprofits led by and serving communities of color in the U.S. The launch includes several nonprofit partners including The Trust for the Americas, Fondazione Mundo Digitale, Tech4Dev and the National Urban League. “Before this year comes to an end, we’ll see almost a quarter of a billion people lose their job,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said during a virtual launch event. “It’s a staggering number, in part, it’s the obvious reaction to this pandemic. … It’s also the result of long-term trends in our economy. Trends that have been unleashing more automation — automation that has been eliminating jobs that often involve more manual work, and replacing them with jobs that are more digitally focused.” Forecasts show 800 million people will need to learn new skills for their jobs by 2030, CEO Satya Nadella said during the event. The company’s data shows two years’ worth of digital transformation has occurred over the past two months. Microsoft estimates that by 2025, there will be 149 million new technology jobs, like creating software, cybersecurity, and privacy protection, Smith said. Microsoft is making certifications for its own technologies available for $15, down from more than $100, for those who say their employment has been impacted by the pandemic. That fee will be paid to third parties to scale to meet any surge in demand for certification exams. Those certifications cover things like Azure, Power Platform, Teams, security, and data analysis. Microsoft is also developing a new learning application embedded within Microsoft Teams, so employers around the world can more easily provide job training, to release in the fall. Washington, D.C. June 15, 2020.- The Trust for the Americas with kind support from the N.C.B. Foundation kickstarted today with the first cohort of trainees of the NCB ICON Lab in Jamaica. The NCB ICON Lab promotes an entrepreneurial and learning mindset for Jamaican youth to become referents as well as becoming change agents in their communities. ICON is an acronym that stands for Innovative, Creative, Outstanding, and Nationalistic. During April and May 2020, The Trust for the Americas carried out the “Train-the-trainers” (TTT) with The MICO University College. The Objective was to equip teachers with the tools they need to provide training to youth. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, The Trust and The Mico University converted the Lab’s curriculum and training plan into an online model to meet social distancing standards. A group of fifty beneficiaries, ages ranging from sixteen to thirty years old, will join the introductory session as the pilot cohort. Training will run from mid-June to August and will focus on teaching essential life skills, entrepreneurship, communications skills, and using the innovative approach of augmented reality to deliver content. Participants will also take part in online Ideathons and a Pitch Tank event that will be celebrated at the end of the training. Nadeen Matthews Blair, CEO of the N.C.B. Foundation, stated that “COVID-19 has accelerated the digital divide at a time when digital literacy skills are needed more than ever to thrive in the new normal. This initiative is timely, and we are proud to play a part in preparing our youth with technical and life skills to impact their lives positively.” Also, The Trust for the Americas, in collaboration with Helelab, a consulting company that provides knowledge to organizations regarding the digital economy’s impact, designed a plan to evaluate training’ success.  The Monitoring and Evaluation methodological approach will focus on mapping the participants’ Digital Skills “Genome” and tracking their evolution for the course’s duration. Data will be centralized and analyzed in Helelab’s specialized ‘FutureSkills’ platform to provide a more in-depth analysis of participants’ digital and entrepreneurial skills. Linda Eddleman, CEO of the Trust for the Americas, attended the introductory session to support the eager trainees and provided remarks regarding the importance of this partnership: “The Trust for the Americas is pleased to be part of this youth-driven initiative among the N.C.B. Foundation and the Mico University College. Belize City, BELIZE, June 15th, 2020 – As part of the second phase of the Open Government project: Transformation to an Open Public Administration in Belize, and seeking to leverage open government tools to tackle issues raised by COVID-19, The Trust for the Americas in coordination with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Belize Open Government Steering Committee announces the launch of the Belize Open Government Action Plan Development in Times of COVID-19.   The Belize National Open Government Action Plan is intended to serve as the instrument to orient the actions of stakeholders in Belize to accomplish certain open government commitments that are identified and agreed by government and non-government in different topics and sectors.   Rodrigo Iriani, Project Manager of the initiative comments ¨Given the diverse challenges posed by COVID-19 in Belize, the exercise of developing Belize’s open government action plan seeks to contribute to defining priority areas in which open government could add more value or have a greater impact for COVID-19 related recovery¨.  The co-creation process of an action plan entails a sustained participatory approach open to anyone wishing to participate, to identify areas of opportunity to utilize open government in pursuing among others new policies, improved government services, innovative transparency efforts, or alike.
