Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, November 11, 2020 – The City Council of Tierra Blanca, in the state of Veracruz, is joining forces with The Trust for the Americas to train women in the municipality through the VIVE Project (Come, Be Inspired, and Sell) to strengthen their economic opportunities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The signing of the collaboration was carried out by Rafael Montiel Martínez, Esq., Sixth Councilman of the City Council of Tierra Blanca, who stated that “The City Council of Tierra Blanca thanks Proyecto VIVE for this joining of efforts through the Economic Development Commission, since through its virtual training sessions, women from Tierra Blanca will be trained in entrepreneurship topics to face the challenges of the pandemic.”.
In this regard, María Fernanda Sierra Perea, Senior Program Manager at POETA, stated, “At The Trust for the Americas, we know it’s essential to provide opportunities for women to become emotionally and financially independent, and what better way to do that than by joining forces with local governments. Today we are pleased to partner with the Tierra Blanca City Council to provide training to women in the region. This partnership will give them the tools to advance their personal and professional development, thereby benefiting women, their families, and their communities.”.

The VIVE Project has been implemented in Mexico by The Trust for the Americas since 2016, thanks to support from the Walmart Foundation. The project aims to provide tools that foster women’s economic development and offer them alternatives to improve their economic situation and that of their families. Between 2016 and 2019, it trained more than 53,000 people nationwide. Of the total number of people trained, more than 43,000 are women (40% of whom are heads of household). In addition, nearly 7,000 people were connected to economic opportunities (86% women; 60% were placed in full-time jobs, and 21% became self-employed or launched entrepreneurial projects).
