San Antonio de Guerra, Dominican Republic. September 22, 2024 – Although the Dominican Republic has made economic progress, challenges still exist in some communities, especially regarding access to economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs. Limited access to appropriate technologies and training remains an area for improvement to foster more inclusive and sustainable development in the country.
In this context, The Trust for the Americas, a non-profit organization affiliated with the American States (OAS) internship program, has been a key player in the implementation of innovative solutions seeking to transform the most vulnerable communities in the Dominican Republic. In collaboration with AES Dominican Republic Foundation and with the support of OAS, The Trust has created synergies that, since 2019, have directly impacted nearly 500 people, of which 90 % are women in areas such as Boca Chica, Guayacanes, La Caleta, Los Mina, Quisqueya, and more recently, in San Antonio de Guerra.
Through its training programs in entrepreneurship, digital technology, and social-emotional skills, The Trust has equipped these communities with the tools they need to improve their businesses and raise their families’ quality of life. Some of these training sessions were held at the San Antonio de Guerra Community Technology Center (CTC), one of the more than 100 centers that The Trust operates in partnership with the Community Technology Centers of the Office of the President of the Dominican Republic.
As part of this effort, the Entrepreneurship Fair was held on September 22, during which The Trust, in collaboration with the AES Dominicana Foundation, provided 40 female entrepreneurs the opportunity to present your products and services to leaders of the business ecosystem, generating new growth and expansion opportunities for your businesses.
Esteban de la Torre, representative of the OAS in the Dominican Republic, highlighted: “The OAS’s collaboration with The Trust for the Americas and the AES Dominicana Foundation is a clear example of how strategic partnerships can transform economic development in vulnerable communities. Innovative entrepreneurship is a key tool for unlocking economic and social opportunities.”
Bredyg Disla, Executive Vice President of the AES Dominicana Foundation, emphasized: “AES Dominicana’s commitment has been vital in ensuring that women entrepreneurs have access to the resources they need to succeed. Through our partnership with The Trust, we have been able to implement solutions that empower women entrepreneurs to overcome market barriers.”
Carlos Escalante, communications manager for The Trust for the Americas, noted: “The success of these women entrepreneurs reflects why The Trust exists: to provide training and create opportunities where none existed before. Our partnership with AES Dominicana has benefited nearly 500 people, strengthening their businesses through training, financial incentives, and specialized mentoring.”
Thanks to these partnerships spearheaded by The Trust for the Americas, the organizations reaffirm their commitment to continue leading initiatives that strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Dominican Republic and throughout Latin America, promoting a more inclusive and equitable future.
