The Trust for the Americas and Microsoft will implement the TechSpark initiative in Puerto Rico to empower entrepreneurs through technology. 

The Trust for the Americas is proud to announce it has been selected to implement Microsoft\’s TechSpark Initiative in Puerto Rico. TechSpark aims to foster economic opportunities through employment and innovation. In an effort to accelerate economic growth, in 2023, TechSpark operated in six communities in the United States and northern border cities of Mexico, in support of local community organizations. The goal is to develop digital skills, support nonprofit organizations, and create employment. In 2024, Microsoft announces that TechSpark is expanding to all 50 states of the United States through a new model of TechSpark Fellows, in which The Trust for the Americas will proudly bring the program to Puerto Rico through the over 10-year implementation project, POETA DigiSpark. 

Thanks to the local partners of The Trust, Centro para Puerto Rico (M. Calderón Foundation), and the Inter-American University, TechSpark in Puerto Rico focuses on promoting local entrepreneurship through the adoption of digital transformation, creating a dynamic and conducive environment for the development of key skills in the digital age. 

Additionally, through the Centro para Puerto Rico, the TechSpark initiative was able to reach the Loíza community, known as a representative locality of Afro-Puerto Ricans. In Loíza, training sessions in basic digital skills, life skills, and entrepreneurship were provided to a group of women interested in growing, starting, or enhancing their businesses. 

The POETA DigiSpark and TechSpark projects not only represent a significant advancement in the field of digital training and entrepreneurship promotion in Puerto Rico but also act as an essential catalyst for personal and economic growth in the region. This is a crucial step toward building a more solid and resilient future for individuals and the community as a whole. 

From The Trust, we are excited to see the positive impact that this initiative is having on the Loíza community and throughout Puerto Rico. The combination of digital transformation, entrepreneurship promotion, and digital skills training is paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future.
