Esta importante certificación posiciona a la UTSC como un referente en la formación y certificación en tecnología de vanguardia en el país.   En colaboración con Certiport, líder mundial en certificaciones digitales, la UTSC ahora es reconocida como un Certiport Authorized Testing Center para la obtención de Certificados de Microsoft Learn. 2023/06/09 Santiago, Chile (May 25, 2023) – With the mission of catalyzing employability and transforming the lives of vulnerable populations in Chile, The Trust for the Americas establishes a strategic collaboration with Ernst & Young (EY) and Microsoft. This alliance aims to empower people through training in digital and technical skills, increasing their competitiveness in the labor market and opening the door to new economic opportunities, especially for those looking for their first job. The Trust for the Americas, an international NGO with a significant impact in the Americas, promotes synergies between the public and private sectors, seeking to generate a positive change in the lives of millions of people. In 2022, Ernst & Young (EY) took the initiative and joined the POETA DigiSpark project to deliver Future Skills Workshops, a platform to help beneficiaries acquire the necessary skills for employability in today’s world. It should be noted that Microsoft and The Trust have been allies for more than 15 years in favor of empowering vulnerable communities in the Americas through the access, use and appropriation of technology. Funded by Microsoft Philanthropy, the POETA DigiSpark project continues to spearhead Microsoft’s Global Skilling Initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean. This is thanks to access to training and mentoring to people most affected by the recent loss of jobs or who are at risk of being replaced by automation processes. 2023/02/17 Mexico City. – After the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment and underemployment rates increased in countries such as Mexico and Colombia. Its most vulnerable populations have difficulties accessing training opportunities, especially those that involve digital and technical skills. Access to these opportunities is key to revitalizing economies and increasing the competitiveness of people, particularly those looking to get their first job. It should be noted that both countries represent two of the largest economies in Latin America, which have suffered due to the pandemic. In this sense, The Trust for the Americas is committed to the development and professional growth of individuals and, therefore, offers interested people the possibility of improving their skills and knowledge. Hand in hand with Microsoft Philanthropies and in association with a network of local partners, The Trust implements the POETA DigiSpark Project, which focuses on providing training in digital, technical and life skills, in order to facilitate access to economic opportunities and schools in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay. 26/01/2023 Cidade de Buenos Aires, 25 de janeiro de 2023.- Como parte das parcerias que a The Trust for the Americas vem desenvolvendo para ampliar a rede de centros de capacitação em habilidades digitais na Argentina, foi inaugurado hoje um novo centro do programa POETA na sede do Hogar de Cristo, em Villa Soldati. O centro é coordenado pela Cooperativa de Trabalho “La Vida Como Viene” e foi criado graças ao apoio da empresa Klimber Latam e à doação de equipamentos feita pelo Estúdio EAF da Cidade de Buenos Aires. O novo centro de capacitação beneficiará os homens e mulheres que moram no Centro Hogar de Cristo e que se capacitam e trabalham diariamente nesse local. O Trust for the Americas trabalha com 1.000 instituições em 26 países e coordena 357 centros de treinamento digital para que populações vulneráveis na América Latina e no Caribe tenham a oportunidade de progredir, conseguir um emprego, criar uma microempresa ou retornar à educação formal. A cada ano, o programa POETA impacta a vida de mais de 800.000 pessoas. 56,1% dos beneficiários são mulheres, muitas delas vítimas de violência doméstica, que sustentam suas famílias. Uma alta porcentagem dos beneficiários são migrantes, pessoas que estão superando situações de dependência química, problemas sociais ou que, simplesmente por não terem conseguido concluir a educação formal, não encontram oportunidades econômicas que lhes permitam sustentar a si mesmas e suas famílias. 2022/12/12 Costa Rica – The Trust for the Americas, en alianza con el gobierno nacional de Costa Rica, organizaciones locales e internacionales y con el apoyo financiero de la Embajada de Estados Unidos en San José, implementó el proyecto “Innovación y Tecnologías Cívicas para una Mayor Transparencia en los Servicios Gubernamentales” dirigido a fortalecer las capacidades de los gobiernos municipales e instituciones públicas en la recuperación postpandemia.  Tras dos años de implementación, el proyecto fomentó la colaboración entre distintos sectores de la sociedad y un proceso para estimular la innovación en la administración pública y el uso de datos para mejorar los servicios gubernamentales. Por meio da assinatura do acordo de adesão à Franquia Social POETA (Programa de Oportunidades Econômicas por meio da Tecnologia nas Américas), a Fundação Terra unirá esforços com a The Trust for the Americas para inaugurar quatro centros POETA em Honduras ao longo de 2023 e, posteriormente, em toda a região. A Franquia Social POETA busca promover a inclusão social e econômica de populações vulneráveis na América Latina e no Caribe por meio do acesso, uso e apropriação de tecnologias e estratégias educacionais integrais, presenciais e virtuais. 2022/12/02 Washington, D.C. November 30, 2022.- The Trust for the Americas initiated its 25th Anniversary year by awarding on November 30th its Humanitarian Award to its founding Board of Directors members. The Humanitarian Award recognized Enrique Segura, June DeHart and Susan Benson for founding an institution devoted to promoting socio-economic inclusion of all people and reflect their faith everyone deserves an opportunity to excel. The award was presented by Secretary General Luis Almagro Lemes in a ceremony at the Organization of American States headquarters in Washington DC.  In his speech, Almagro stated, “The Trust for the Americas is recognizing three exemplary individuals who have contributed in practical and important ways to improve opportunities for vulnerable and marginalized people and to increase sustainability of democracy in many countries of our hemisphere. I should add the work has not always been easy. To produce a beautiful building, you have to do a lot of digging and June, Susan and Enrique have been there with the staff of The Trust and other members of the Board of Directors shouldering the burdens.  The result of all their hard work is the noble edifice we now call The Trust for the Americas.  Millions of people are better off for the work they began in 1997”. After the awards were presented, Dr Enrique Segura and Mrs. DeHart, on behalf of herself and Mrs. Benson, described their experiences in founding The Trust for the Americas and the work they fostered to promote social and economic inclusion for vulnerable communities in the Americas mobilizing public and private resources.   Mrs. DeHart mentioned that “it has been an honor and a privilege to be part of the growth and success of The Trust, fostering hope and inclusion to millions of vulnerable and marginalized people in the Americas.  Linda Eddleman, CEO, and her very talented and able team at The Trust are all our heroes”. Dr. Enrique Segura reaffirmed his commitment to The Trust.  As a well-known philanthropist, he recalled his support for The Trust and his early provision of “seed capital” and sponsorship of anti-corruption Summits. Dr. Enrique Segura is the founder and majority stockholder for the ENSE Group, a group of companies with annual revenues of four billion dollars. Prior to his work at the ENSE Group, Dr. Segura had several diplomatic assignments. He is also the Chairman of the Board of the Smithsonian Museum of American History and a member of the Advisory Board of the Smithsonian Institution. June L. DeHart is a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP.  Prior to joining the law firm in 1987, she served as Legislative Assistant/Counsel and a subcommittee Chief Counsel in the U.S. Senate.  A creative problem-solver for her clients, Ms. DeHart specializes in federal legislative and regulatory matters before the U.S. Congress, the Administration, and federal agencies.  She is Vice Chair of the Board for The Trust for the Americas; Vice Chair of the Board for the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES); and Member of the Board and Chair of the Governance Committee for the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. 2022/11/16 Kingston, Jamaica – November 9 & 10, 2022. In an in-person event at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC), The Trust for the Americas through its Democratizing Innovation in the Americas (DIA) Program, celebrated the DIA Summit 2022. Under the theme “Global YOUth: youth in the context of the globalized world,” the DIA Summit 2022 aimed to facilitate meaningful connections and empowerment of youth through networking opportunities and discussions on cutting-edge topics.    Attendees at the event included Linda Eddleman, Chief Executive Officer of The Trust for the Americas; Rodrigo Iriani, Senior Manager of the DIA Program at The Trust; Cheryll Stewart, Acting Managing Director GEN Jamaica; Dr. Andre Hill, National Literacy Coordinator; Milton Samuda, Chairman at the Institute of Law and Economics (ILE); Dayne Gutzmer, CEO at ILE; Laura D’abreau from the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) of Trinidad and Tobago.   Additionally, the summit was composed of the following four panels:   At the event, Linda Eddleman, CEO of The Trust, expressed, “Here at the Trust, we spent much time thinking about ways to achieve our mission of helping young people in the Caribbean and Latin America have a better future. In the DIA Program, what we do is that we provide collaborative spaces and training, and we help young people to take ideas and turn them into businesses. We are excited that we started in Jamaica in 2016, and now we are in seven countries, and around 15,000 young people have participated in our program.”   In his part, Dwayne Gutzmer commented: “The Summit is strategically staged during Youth Month as we try to focus on our youth and their development. The Summit gives young people an opportunity, voice, and platform to inspire others. We want you[th] to be in the conversations about the topical issues around us, and we can only do that if we provide opportunities like this so that you can get involved.”   Lastly, Laura D’Abreau reaffirmed: “DIA has impacted thousands of lives over the last couple of years. Collectively, the initiative will affect millions of lives through The Trust for the Americas, the Organization of American States, and the support of the Citi Foundation. 2022/11/14 Kingston, Jamaica – November 8, 2022. In an in-person event, The Trust for the Americas with the InterAmerican Development Bank Lab (IDB Lab) celebrated the official launch of the project “Unleashing the Potential of Jamaican Youth through Empowerment & Training,” known as JET.   This project is an initiative designed by The Trust for the Americas through the Democratizing Innovation in the Americas (DIA) Program and implemented thanks to financial support from the NCB Foundation, Microsoft, Citi Foundation, and the IDB LAB, as well as the leadership of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC), the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ), the Caribbean School of Data (CSOD), and the Ministry of Education and Youth.  JET used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify employment market needs in Jamaica, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and the United States. JET’s training is now tailored to the current market opportunities to ensure the participants have the digital skills required to get good entry-level jobs in Jamaican firms and government agencies.  Participants at the event included Linda Eddleman, Chief Executive Officer of The Trust for the Americas; Rodrigo Iriani, Senior Manager of the DIA Program at The Trust; Sudaney Blair, Operations Associate at the IDB office in Kingston; Nadeen Matthews-Blair, Chief Executive Officer of NCB Foundation; Colonel Martin Rickman, Chairman of the JET Steering Committee; Imega Breese-McNab, Executive Director of the Private Sector of Jamaica and Yanique Williams, Senior Director Youth and Adolescent Policy Division at the Ministry of Education and Youth.  Mr. Michael Lee-Chin, CEO of Portland Holdings and a Member of the Board of Directors of The Trust for the Americas, stated, “The Trust for the Americas has provided Jamaican youth with training since 2017. As a Board member of The Trust, I have witnessed first-hand the organization’s commitment to our young people’s success. I am delighted that the Trust will continue its good work through its new project Unleashing the Potential of Jamaican Youth through Empowerment & Training. A stronger Jamaica is a product of our empowered youth.”  At the event, Nadeen Matthews-Blair, expressed, “There is no shortage of brilliance in Jamaica, but most of what is missing are opportunities. So, at that time, we started on this journey to help Jamaicans without tertiary education opportunities get access to skills because our fundamental philosophy is that to build a better Jamaica, you have to build the people. JET is what all of this is about; it is education, with special focus on skills that are high in demand globally.”  In her part, Linda Eddleman, CEO of The Trust, commented, “The Trust for the Americas has been operating for the past 25 years, and one of our principal goals is to provide skills to young people and access economic opportunities. All of it has been worked through alliances, which is why the JET project is an excellent example of partnerships. We have representatives from all sectors committed to supporting youth in finding 1200 jobs of the future.”  Digital technologies continue spreading rapidly. Jamaican employers, therefore, are demanding sophisticated digital skills from their employees. But many otherwise capable Jamaican youth have yet to have an opportunity to develop those skills. JET is addressing that gap. This project seeks to train 1.200 young innovators in Kingston and St. Andrew within three years in relevant digital and employability skills areas and provide 500 with three months of relevant work experience. In addition, it will offer entrepreneurship opportunities, business mentorship, seed funding, and networking opportunities to Jamaican youth who are successful in the program. 2022/10/28 Bogotá, Colombia, 28 de octubre – La Fundación M&M Formando Líderes y The Trust for the Americas, anunciaron la apertura de un nuevo Centro POETA en Colombia. Este centro de la Franquicia Social POETA, atenderá a personas del municipio de Villanueva, en el departamento de Casanare. Esta alianza refuerza el compromiso que ambas organizaciones tiene de apoyar a poblaciones que viven alguna condición de vulnerabilidad. La Fundación M&M se suma a los 18 centros POETA activos que trabajan en Colombia. Estos centros ofrecen capacitaciones en temas de tecnología, ciencias de la computación y emprendimiento, en aras de contribuir al desarrollo personal y laboral de las comunidades beneficiadas, brindando herramientas para adquirir mejores oportunidades laborales y educativas. Hermes Eduardo Mojica, Director de la Fundación M&M, comentó que “la educación es una de las más importantes herramientas y debemos asegurarnos que sea la mejor, este es exactamente el objetivo de la Fundación M&M, por eso trabajamos día a día con mucha energía y pasión para conseguirlo. Sufriendo de primera mano las consecuencias de la violencia como lo son la pobreza, drogadicción y, sobre todo, falta de educación, la familia Mojica Millán sintió la necesidad de ayudar a más niños y jóvenes y así romper el ciclo de pobreza de la región. Aunque al principio solo enseñaban a sus dos hijas en casa por los peligros que suponía el salir a la escuela de la vereda en que vivían, más niños de la zona empezaron a unirse a estas clases. Hoy en día la fundación no solo ofrece tutorías de inglés, mandarín, programación y ciencias exactas sino esperanza, un hogar y alimentación para quienes lo necesitan. Colombia
