Nas ci\u00eancias sociais, existem duas maneiras principais pelas quais a mudan\u00e7a ocorre: por evolu\u00e7\u00e3o ou por revolu\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Embora nem toda mudan\u00e7a possa ser positiva a n\u00edvel individual, acredito que ambas sejam processos necess\u00e1rios e saud\u00e1veis para o avan\u00e7o da sociedade como um todo.<\/strong> No entanto, a chave est\u00e1 em compreender os processos que est\u00e3o em curso e, assim, adaptar-se melhor a essas mudan\u00e7as. No setor de tecnologia, isso tamb\u00e9m tem se mostrado verdade. Logo v\u00eam \u00e0 mente as duas rodovias pelas quais a maioria das tecnologias e inova\u00e7\u00f5es avan\u00e7a: a inova\u00e7\u00e3o de ritmo constante e est\u00e1vel, que se baseia em modelos preexistentes e em vers\u00f5es de si mesma; e a inova\u00e7\u00e3o radical e disruptiva, que muda fundamentalmente o tabuleiro. \u00c9 claro que ponderar uma sobre a outra \u00e9 uma discuss\u00e3o para outra oportunidade. Mas para onde quero chamar a aten\u00e7\u00e3o hoje \u00e9 para a sua natureza de inevitabilidade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ao revisitar o final de 6th<\/sup> famosa cita\u00e7\u00e3o do fil\u00f3sofo grego Her\u00e1clito do s\u00e9culo V a.C.: \u2019A \u00fanica coisa que \u00e9 constante \u00e9 a mudan\u00e7a<\/em>\u201d, a mensagem parece bastante direta. A ideia dessa constante fundamental foi o que distinguiu sua linha de pensamento da de qualquer um de seus contempor\u00e2neos, imortalizando suas contribui\u00e7\u00f5es para o escrut\u00ednio cont\u00ednuo da natureza da pr\u00f3pria realidade. Her\u00e1clito acreditava que o mundo (a realidade) n\u00e3o deve ser identificado com nenhuma subst\u00e2ncia em particular, mas sim com um processo cont\u00ednuo regido por uma lei de mudan\u00e7a. E, deixando de lado as diferen\u00e7as \u00f3bvias entre o tempo dele e o nosso, acho que esse princ\u00edpio fundamental ainda permanece intacto hoje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Acredito que, para a gera\u00e7\u00e3o Y e a gera\u00e7\u00e3o Z, este possa ser o ano que melhor representa a palavra \u2019mudan\u00e7a\u2019 do que qualquer outro que j\u00e1 vivemos at\u00e9 agora. O curioso \u00e9 que essas gera\u00e7\u00f5es j\u00e1 eram conhecidas como as gera\u00e7\u00f5es da \u2019evolu\u00e7\u00e3o acelerada\u2019 e da \u2019mudan\u00e7a r\u00e1pida\u2019. Desde as amea\u00e7as de um conflito militar crescente com o Ir\u00e3 em janeiro, passando pelos violentos inc\u00eandios florestais na Austr\u00e1lia em fevereiro, at\u00e9 a pandemia da COVID-19 em mar\u00e7o, este ano come\u00e7ou em um ritmo vertiginoso. Naturalmente, aqui na Trust, tamb\u00e9m ficamos surpresos com a natureza disruptiva da crise, e os planos de implementa\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00e9-quarentena tiveram que ser completamente reformulados e reestruturados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Embora todos os nossos programas tenham tido que se adaptar a um formato virtual, devido \u00e0s rigorosas medidas de ficar em casa impostas, O DIA Urban Lab, uma iniciativa da Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Citi e da Trust para as Am\u00e9ricas, teve que adaptar um de seus principais eventos: O Ideathon Urbano.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Este workshop de dois dias \u00e9, em ess\u00eancia, um evento presencial e colaborativo que prospera ao colocar os participantes em contato pr\u00f3ximo para promover o trabalho conjunto. Portanto, o desafio \u00e0 frente era evidente. De repente, precisamos nos adaptar em tempo real a um evento transformador. A primeira coisa que tivemos que fazer foi inovar, reimaginando nosso evento. Os participantes tiveram a tarefa de encontrar solu\u00e7\u00f5es para mitigar o impacto da pandemia em torno de 3 temas centrais: Al\u00edvio econ\u00f4mico, Educa\u00e7\u00e3o e Acesso \u00e0 Informa\u00e7\u00e3o, e Sa\u00fade e Seguran\u00e7a.<\/strong> Isso serviu de plataforma para os jovens iniciarem seus projetos de longo prazo. O Instituto de Direito e Economia, nossos parceiros locais em Kingston, <\/strong>conseguiu reunir virtualmente mais de 120 jovens durante o fim de semana de 4 a 5 de abril, para formar grupos de trabalho, criar solu\u00e7\u00f5es, desenvolver seus prot\u00f3tipos e, finalmente, apresentar suas ideias a um painel de jurados. Do desenvolvimento de tecnologia port\u00e1til de irradia\u00e7\u00e3o germicida ultravioleta a um sistema de entrega e armazenamento de alimentos para ajudar a mitigar potenciais escassezes de alimentos no pa\u00eds, e a sites de ensino \u00e0 dist\u00e2ncia<\/strong>; foram apresentadas iniciativas para abordar uma s\u00e9rie de quest\u00f5es e problemas que surgem nesta crise global. Ao final do Ideathon, um um total de 36 iniciativas inovadoras foram apresentadas, e as melhores ideias inovadoras receberam um incentivo financeiro para desenvolver ainda mais suas solu\u00e7\u00f5es.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Mas, a essa altura, voc\u00ea pode estar se perguntando: se absolutamente todas as pessoas com acesso \u00e0 internet no planeta est\u00e3o recorrendo ao mundo virtual para, de alguma forma, continuar suas vidas pr\u00e9-quarentena, qual \u00e9 o elemento inovador deste evento em particular?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bem, claramente n\u00e3o era torn\u00e1-lo um evento virtual. Mas, por incorporando o contexto da COVID-19 na narrativa principal<\/strong>, conseguimos fazer a transi\u00e7\u00e3o de um workshop virtual de dois dias totalmente focado na \u2019vida pr\u00e9-quarentena\u2019 para um que abra\u00e7a totalmente a vida em quarentena, e contribui para mitigar o seu impacto<\/strong>. Para mim, Inova\u00e7\u00e3o nunca foi sobre grandes investimentos, tecnologia de ponta ou aplicativos milagrosos. Trata-se de ver para onde as correntes da hist\u00f3ria est\u00e3o flutuando e escolher a embarca\u00e7\u00e3o certa para naveg\u00e1-las.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In social sciences, there are two main ways in which change comes about: by evolution or by revolution. Although not all change may be positive on an individual level, I believe both are necessary and healthy processes to the advancement of society as a whole. However, the key lies in understanding the processes that are underway, and thus, better adapting to these changes. In the technology sector, this has also shown to be the case. It quickly comes to mind the two highways on which most of the technologies and innovations move forward: the constant, steady pace innovation that builds upon preexisting models, and versions of itself; and the radical, disruption innovation that fundamentally changes the board. Of course, weighing one over the other is a discussion for another opportunity. But where I want to draw attention today, is to its inevitability nature. When revisiting the late 6th century B.C.E. Greek philosopher Heraclitus\\’ famous quote: \u201cThe only thing that is constant, is change\u201d, the message seems pretty straight forward. The idea of this fundamental constant is what sat his line of thought aside from any of his contemporaries; immortalizing his contributions to the ongoing scrutiny of the nature of reality itself. Heraclitus believed that the world (reality) is not to be identified with any particular substance, but instead with an ongoing process governed by a law of change. And setting aside the obvious differences between his time and ours, I find that that core principle is still intact today. I believe that to millennials and generation Z, this could be the year that embodies the word \\’change\\’ more than any other we\u2019ve experienced so far. The curious thing is that these generations were already the \\’fast phased\\’ and \\’quick change\\’ generations. From threats of an escalating military conflict with Iran in January to raging wildfires in Australia in February, all the way to COVID-19 pandemic in March, this year has started at a vertiginous pace. Naturally, here at the Trust, we were also taken aback by the disruptive nature of the crisis, and pre-quarantine implementation plans had to be completely reshaped and reworked. Although all of our programs had to adjust to a virtual format, due to the strict stay-at-home measures imposed, the DIA Urban Lab, a Citi Foundation and Trust for the Americas\\’ initiative, had to adapt one of its major events: The Urban Ideathon. This two-day workshop is, in essence, an in-person, collaborative event that thrives on bringing participants into close contact to foster to work together. Therefore, the challenge ahead was evident. All of a sudden we needed to adapt on the go to a game-changing event. The first thing we had to do, was innovate by reimagining our event. Participants were tasked with finding solutions to mitigate the impact of the pandemic around 3 core themes: Economic relief, Education and Access to Information, and Health and Security. This served as a platform for youth to start their long-term projects. The Institute of Law and Economics, our local partners in Kingston, managed to virtually rally over 120 youth during the weekend of April 4-5, to form working groups, come up with solutions, develop their prototypes and finally pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. From developing portable ultraviolet germicidal irradiation technology to food delivery and storage system to help mitigate potential food shortages in the country, and to eLearning websites; initiatives were presented to address an array of issues and problems that arise in this global crisis. By the end of the Ideathon, a total of 36 innovative initiatives were presented, and the best innovative ideas received an economic incentive to further develop their solutions. But, at this point, you might be asking yourself: if every single person with internet access on the planet is resorting to the virtual world to somewhat carry on their pre-quarantine lives, what\\’s the innovative element of this particular event? Well, it clearly wasn\\’t making it a virtual event. But, by incorporating the context -of COVID-19- into the main narrative, we manage to transition from a virtual two-day workshop that is all about the \\’pre-quarantine life\\’; into one that fully embraces quarantine life, and contributes to mitigating its impact. To me, Innovation was never about big investments, state-of-the-art technology, nor miracle apps.
