During the presentation of the results of the project\u2019s first phase, Maricarmen Plata, Secretary for Access to Rights and Equity at the OAS, thanked \u201cThe Trust for the Americas, a partner on the ground,\u201d for its important role in training female migrant entrepreneurs from Nicaragua to develop their business and digital skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maricarmen Plata reiterated that \u201cthe OAS makes its tools available to continue contributing to improving the living conditions of migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and their host communities, as well as opening new spaces for national cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite Capra, Regional Coordinator at The Trust for the Americas, spent seven months training Nicaraguan women:\u202f\u201cWe established open communication, which is reflected in the numerous exchanges related to their ventures, their challenges, their dreams, and their dose of reality,\u201d she explained. \u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maite recalled that \u201cthis group of 12 women has been working to analyze videos created by The Trust for the Americas to empower other women in similar situations.\u201d We took the liberty of meeting in person just once to conduct a workshop on CANVAS, adhering to social distancing protocols and using protective equipment, in an open, natural space filled with plants and life. That day, we met face-to-face and formed a SORORA NETWORK that continues to this day. We are at a very significant stage: they have created their CANVASes, and with the support of an expert in the field, we have thoroughly reviewed them in order to provide feedback and strengthen each one, with the goal of implementing them soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of the training sessions, nine women not only received a one-thousand-dollar subsidy, but also created their investment plan based on the knowledge built around safe and quality entrepreneurship, which has helped significantly improve their business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuvimos el atrevimiento de reunirnos presencialmente una \u00fanica vez, para desarrollar un taller sobre CANVAS, respetando protocolos de distanciamiento, herramientas de protecci\u00f3n, en un espacio f\u00edsico-abierto, lleno de plantas y vida. Ese d\u00eda nos conocimos cara a cara y se conform\u00f3 una RED SORORA que se mantiene hasta el d\u00eda de hoy. Estamos en una etapa muy significativa, ellas han creado sus CANVAS y con apoyo de una experta en el tema, los hemos revisado minuciosamente con el fin de retroalimentar y potenciar cada uno, para una pronta implementaci\u00f3n.\u201d Al final de las capacitaciones nueve mujeres no solo recibieron un subsidio de mil d\u00f3lares, sino que crearon su plan de inversi\u00f3n adherido a los conocimientos construidos sobre emprender de forma segura y con calidad, que han ayudado a mejorar notablemente su emprendimiento.
